About this coin

The gold Britannia first appeared in 1987, which makes 2027 its fortieth year. To mark it, the Royal Mint has struck this year's coins with a single-year anniversary privy mark — a '40' set into a band of waves — behind Philip Nathan's classic standing figure of Britannia with shield and trident. The obverse carries Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III, and the reverse keeps the Royal Mint's four security features: a latent image that switches as the coin tilts, micro-lettering, a surface animation and a tincture background. It is struck in 24-carat (999.9) gold and is UK legal tender.
